Preserving the Hiti system of the Kathmandu Valley is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, the Hiti system represents an ingenious and historical method of water management that has sustained communities in the region for centuries. These traditional water spouts are not only engineering marvels but also essential for providing a reliable and sustainable source of clean water to the local population.

Secondly, the Hiti system embodies a sustainable and community-centric approach to water distribution, showcasing the harmonious relationship between human settlements and their environment. The preservation of this system promotes ecological balance and highlights the importance of utilizing natural resources in a responsible and efficient manner.

Furthermore, the Hiti system is deeply ingrained in the cultural and historical fabric of the Kathmandu Valley. Many Hitis are adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures, contributing to the artistic heritage of the region. Preserving these structures is vital for maintaining a tangible connection to the cultural identity and traditions of the local communities.

From a practical standpoint, the Hiti system continues to play a crucial role in addressing water needs in a rapidly urbanizing environment. By preserving and maintaining these traditional water sources, we ensure water security for present and future generations, particularly in the face of growing urban challenges and potential water scarcity.

In summary, the preservation of the Hiti system in the Kathmandu Valley is essential for its historical, cultural, environmental, and practical significance. It safeguards a sustainable water management system while upholding the region's cultural heritage and supporting the well-being of its communities.

Community engagement is the most important component in the attempt to preservation, restoration and promotion of the heritage like Hiti system.
